From the first name in American sparkling wine comes this elegant
bubbly from the superb 2005 vintage. Schramsberg's Blanc de Blancs is
dry and crisp, using small amounts of malolctic- and barrel-fermented
wines in the blend for greater depth and texture. The 2005 growing
season allowed for longer hang times on the chardonnay fruit that
comprises this wine, drawn from top vineyards in Napa, Mendocino,
Sonoma and Marin. The extended time on the vine really concentrated the
fruit flavors, letting the grapes develop crisp apple, creamy lemon and
tangy pineapple flavors to complement the usual stone fruit and key
lime zest. Hints of fresh-baked brioche and toasted hazelnut round out
the nose and palate. Wine Spectator: "Lush and supple, offering creamy citrus
and Asian pear aromas, with nicely layered lemon curd, cinnamon and
ginger flavors that build to a light, crisp note. Drink now through
2011." (07/08)
